Reader Response Journals

~Students will be asked to respond to literature by writing in their journals.  Students will be prompted to respond to a question that I pose, such as describing the author's tone or discussing how they can make text-to-text, text-to-self and text-to-world connections.  Other times, students will have the opportunity to write freely about their thoughts and insights concerning the current book they are reading.

~This is an informal assessment to determine how well students are understanding and connecting the reading strategies we learn in class to their individual reading selections.  Students will  not be required to write in this journal every day.  I will read their journals but will not grade them.  The journal is a meaningful communication tool for me to respond and discuss literature with every one of my students.

~As I mentioned in the supply list, students will need to provide their own writing journal.   The journal may have a decorative cover and may be any color.  I do ask that the journal is ruled inside and that it not be a small or miniature sized journal.
