Ivy's Search engines for Kids - links to lots of search engines  on one page.  You enter your keyword right on the page KidsClick -alternate address: www.kidsclick.org web searching directories for kids by Librarians.  It provides age appropriate information for students without distracting advertisements.  The search page has both a search engine with a type in space and lists of subject areas with screened links.
