Dear Parents,
It's hard to express how proud and happy I was this past weekend as I watched the children receive their First Holy Communion. Many others present were also touched by their faith and reverence.
I feel very blessed to have helped in some small way with their preparation. My prayer is that they will continue to be close to Our Lord in the Eucharist throughout their lives. Thank you for allowing me to be part of such a special time in your children's lives.   May God continue to bless you and your beautiful families.

Sincerely,
Cheryl Green

December, 2011

Dear Parents,
It has been a joy to celebrate the holiday season with your children. It all began at Thanksgiving when we studied the Pilgrims, their voyage and way of life. We also learned about several tribes of Native Americans and their contributions to our culture. The 2A Pilgrims, Indians, narrators and historians did a fine job of dramatizing some of what they had learned for the other classes.

We began the celebration of Advent with prayer and the lighting of the Advent wreath. On St. Nicholas Day, we had a surprise visit from St. Nick himself. The children have also been practicing random acts of kindness. When they have done a kind deed, they are adding a cotton ball to a lamb which can then be placed under the tree or by the manger as their birthday gift to Jesus.

All of these activities combined with our preparation for First Reconciliation, our daily work and learning cursive writing have made this past month a very exciting time indeed!

On Thursday, December 22, we will remember the true meaning of Christmas with a prayer service and party.

May you have a joyous Christmas and may God continue to bless you and your beautiful children!

Peace,
Cheryl Green

For Week of  December 12, 2011

Dear Parents,
As we prepare ourselves for Christmas, our Advent lambs are becoming very wooly as the children are striving to find opportunities to add a cotton ball to their lambs to represent their acts of kindness. They are so enthusiastic ,in fact, that we have left the Dollar Store with no more cotton balls to sell! I am so proud of all of the children's efforts to serve Our Lord by serving one another.

We are all looking forward to enjoying the annual Christmas program. This year, it is being presented by the 4th, 5th and 6th grade classes. It will be on Wednesday at 1:15 for the school children and again at 7:00 P.M.  It is always an enjoyable experience and one that helps us all to focus on the true meaning of Christmas.

Have a wonderful week!
Peace and Many Blessings,
Cheryl Green

In preparation for First Reconciliation, we will discuss the meaning and the consequences of sin. We will introduce the children to the church's special way of celebrating God's forgiveness. We'll be discussing the parts of the sacrament including Confession, Contrition, Penance and Absolution.

We have been saying the Act of Contrition each day in the classroom. It would be very helpful if you could review it with your child as a bedtime prayer.

In our Anthology this week, we will use an old fable, Nine in One Grr Grr! to practice some of the following skills:  practicing new vocabulary and spelling words containing the y and ey spelling of the long e sound, using a dictionary, sequencing a story, recognition of cause and effect,  and using synonyms and context clues.

Dear Parents,
We would like to thank you all soooo much for all the help with our Fall Fest. We had a wonderful time listening to Halloween stories, eating delicious snacks, playing Halloween Bingo, enjoying a very creative Halloween craft and even enjoyed a little dancing! Thank you,Mrs. Bentivegna, for our craft and for your planning and to Mrs. Smolinski, Mrs. Boyle, Mrs. Ward and Mrs. Malone for reading to us, preparing treats and games and helping with our Halloween trick or treat bags. Thank you also, parents, for sending special Halloween surprises. We had a wonderful time!!

To prepare for All Saints Day, each of our teachers has become somewhat of an expert on one particular saint. We will each visit three different classes and share a 20 minute presentation on a saint who has a special significance to us, so that each class will enjoy three presentations. I think the children will enjoy getting to know some of the other teachers in the building and hearing about the life of one of our favorite saints. Join us for mass on Tuesday at 8:30 if your are able. Happy All Saints Day!
Have a wonderful week!

We had our first school mass on Friday. Since we are the First Communion class,
