The Sacrament of Reconciliation

Start with the sign of the cross and say,
"Bless me Father, for I have sinned.  This is my First Confession.  These are my sins:

Tell the priest your sins. Then say,
"For these and all my other past sins I am truly sorry, and I ask penance and absolution."

The priest will talk to you about your sins.  Then he will give you a penance to do.  The priest will ask you to pray the Act of Contrition.
Say:
"My God, I am sorry for my sins with all my heart.
In choosing to do wrong and failing to do good,
I have sinned against you whom I should love above all things.
I firmly intend with your help to do penance, to sin no more,
and to avoid whatever leads me to sin.
Our Savior, Jesus Christ, suffered and died for us.
In His name, my God, have mercy.  Amen."

The priest will say the absolution prayer.  When he begins to make the sign of the cross over you, you should bless yourself, and say "Amen" when he does.

The priest will say: "Give thanks to the Lord for He is good."
You say,
"His mercy endures forever."

The priest will say, "Go in peace." You should answer,
"Thanks be to God."
Say, "Thank you " to the priest when you leave.
